VIDEO: Jay Leno Drives the 100th Singer Porsche

Despite the immense tech and performance a modern Porsche 911 provides, there’s something about the original air-cooled examples. Over the last several years, enthusiasts have become increasingly nostalgic for air-cooled Porsche 911s to the point that they’re now being resto-modded.

There are a couple of companies now offering such a service, most notably, Singer.

Based out of Southern California, just around the corner from Jay Leno’s Garage as it turns out, Singer has been cranking out modified Porches over the last decade. Including the car depicted in the video above, as it was built to commemorate Singer’s 100th build.

Sporting an Ed Pink modified engine, as well as unique logos and stretching throughout the whole car, the 100th Singer is a one-off build commissioned for a private owner out of Alabama. As SInger’s own Tim Gregorio points out, each and every 911 they build is unique in its own right; no two cars are identical, using specific color and engine combinations for each vehicle.

It should probably be noted that the donor 911 used is based on the more modern 964 generation (1989-1994), which were the bridge between the original, old-school style 911 and the more modern water-cooled examples of today. Yup, this is a 1991 model with classic taillights, trim and styling cues, not an actual original 911 or 930 as you might think it is. In fact, Tim mentions that Stinger doesn’t even touch those generation of cars, suggesting that the owners keep them stock and original.

That’s what makes it even cooler — you have al of the modern tech enology of an early ’90s 911, with all of the style and flair of the original. Top it off with a highly modified engine, upgraded brakes, suspension and handcrafted trim pieces and materials, and you have something truly unique.
