Jay Leno’s Garage is always a treat to watch. Since he’s a car enthusiast himself, he knows what he’s talking about, so not only are his videos entertaining, but they’re informative. From week to week, viewers get to watch Jay drive all kinds of stunning and interesting cars owned by various people from all walks of life; and they’re always interesting to watch. But every now and then, we get to peer into what Jay himself actually owns in his collection. This video showcases his personal 2017 Ford GT.
One thing about Jay is that he’s a walking encyclopedia of automotive knowledge, and it shows in this video—which is a good thing, and makes this video a good watch. He starts off by talking about the whole process of ordering a new Ford GT and the extremely cool ordering package approved owners are sent in order to option their perspective GT. All of these items, Jay still has. He even has the progress pictures Ford sent as it was being built.
He goes on to talk about the design and how it compares to the previous generation GT from 2005, and how the initial design ideas were so different from each other, yet, so very effective. He covers the chassis, LeMans, and the twin-turbocharged V6 that was met with some controversy in the beginning, but has proven itself to be a good choice.
Inside, Jay demonstrates that even though ingress/egress may be a little awkward, once you’re inside, it’s very comfortable with the adjustable pedals and steering wheel controls. The GT has the ability to change the ride height, based upon the driving mode selection. It can also raise the front end to pass over steep drive ways.
The Ford GT is an amazing car, and is confirmed through Jay’s commentary as he cruises the streets of Los Angeles. There are simply way too many items and aspects of this car to do it justice. From the automatic wing, to the steering wheel mounted tachometer red-line indicator (don’t worry, it still has a regular tach in the instrument cluster), this car is full of surprises, and yet maintains its poise and balance without coming off as gimmicky. We look forward to plenty of other reviews from Jay Leno’s Garage.
