Official Release:

Pairing a 555 High Performance Engine with a 555 High Performance Tire

TORRANCE, CA – Edelbrock, a leading manufacturer and distributor of aftermarket performance parts, in conjunction with Pat Musi Racing Engines, produces a high-performance crate engine called the 555.  Coincidentally, Nitto Tires produces a high-performance tire also called the 555.  It was only natural then that the two be paired to see what happens.  And the perfect person to do it was legendary drag race driver and engine builder, Pat Musi.

Nitto was nice enough to send Pat a set of high performance 555 G2 tires to fit Pat’s first gen ‘67 Camaro, which is powered by a high performance Edelbrock Musi 555 engine. Pat was able to pair the two 555’s at Mooresville Dragway in Mooresville, NC, in front of a large audience.

The audience were really into what Pat was doing, cheering with every burnout. As for Pat himself, he was extremely impressed with the Nitto tires.  He was blown away with their performance compared to the tires he had on the car previously. He used to spin the tires at every gear change, but the Nittos stay hooked no matter what. In fact, his wife, Liz, wouldn’t even ride in the car with the old tires!

The Edelbrock-Musi 555 Pro-Flo XT is the most powerful naturally aspirated crate engine package in Edelbrock’s line, making 723HP and 652 ft lbs torque (with Pro-Flo 4 XT EFI).  This proprietary system consists of a skillfully engineered intake manifold with a unique design that delivers more horsepower and torque than a traditional single-plane intake manifold. The Pro-Flo system includes everything needed to bolt in and go, such as fuel injectors, fuel rails, O2 sensor & bung, throttle body, electronic engine control unit (ECU) and handheld calibration module. The ECU is self-learning making initial start-up and tuning a breeze. It can be fine-tuned with the handheld calibration module without the need for a laptop.

The NT555®G2 is the next generation ultra-high performance summer tire designed with the performance driver in mind.  It features larger tread blocks with

Enhanced* traction for rear tires of vehicles with staggered fitments and high horsepower. The tires carry a UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Rating) of AA, which is the highest, and a Temperature rating of A.  For more information on Nitto, go to www.nitto.com.

Pat brings his experience of driving a race car into the engine-building room at Pat Musi Racing Engines where many of the top Pro Mod racers go for their race-winning engines.  He also knows a thing or two about tires.  “I have the first prototype 555 engine installed in my personal ‘67 Camaro, the car I started racing with. It hauls ass down the track and has been trouble free for over 10 years,” said Pat Musi.  “The engine is so strong, it kept breaking tires loose if not blowing them out.  But not the Nitto’s!  I will definitely recommend them to my street car customers.”
