Georgia Lottery Promises Winner A Corvette, Can’t Deliver Due to Shortage

Georgia man, Dennis Kahler, just hit the jackpot but it might not have been the blessing in disguise that he once thought. While on his way to pick up lunch for his wife Dennis had bought a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket. Upon scratching away the film, he was surprised to find a winning ticket. However, something was wrong with this winner’s experience.

The ticket promised a jackpot of $250,000 and a 2020 Corvette Stingray, fully loaded. However, the Georgia Lottery failed to secure the cars before the printing and promising of prizes. Because of this, Dennis was given an allowance of $107,000 to buy a fully equipped 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray. This would have been fine if they had coordinated it before promising enough to buy the said car.

Dennis was referred to 5-Star Chevrolet by the lottery company and was given an offer. He was infuriated upon learning that there would be a $10,000 mark-up. A 5-Star representative has since stated that there was no agreement made with the Georgia lottery and that they modified the original price to accommodate the winnings. However, the 2020 model year for the C8 Corvette slowed production and cut the original 40,000 units in half resulting in mark-ups.

It is important to note here that the dealer was not to blame, but rather the lottery coordination team. Dennis, after searching for a very long time, finally found a dealer in another state however he won’t be able to have it delivered until February. Then prize money of $250,000 was successfully gifted to its new owner, so maybe this is not all bad. However this is a significant error on the part of the Georgia lottery, this year has been rough on the automotive companies especially and they can’t just be giving out cars without previous arrangement.
