What’s likely in direct response to the demand and popularity of the RB26DETT engine, Nissan has decided to expand into the now classic GT-R market. As a result, the engineers over at Nissan have just added a vast collection of parts for the 2.6-liter, twin-turbo I6 engine. What they haven’t added is a fully-functional, turn-key engine — that’s existed for years if you have roughly $40K to buy a good one, but instead, the parts to put one together yourself, or replace parts that need to be retired.
As announced by according to Nissan’s Japanese Nismo Division, Nismo Heritage Parts is not just offering stock parts, but also aftermarket parts, allowing you to build your own powerhouse from the ground up! The selection includes the cylinder block, cylinder head, crankshaft, all the gaskets, pistons, connecting rods, exhaust assembly, fuel pump assembly, the needed wiring harness, and a bunch of other goodies.
The program is offering two versions of the engine block; a standard unit for around $1,500 made with the R32, R33, and R34 GT-Rs owners in mind, or a N1 block for $3,800 that targets owners of the R33 and R34. Depending on your block and cylinder head configuration, you could walk away with a steal for the heart of your Nissan.
The Nismo Heritage Parts program was lunched back in 2017, and just concentrated on parts for the R32 GT-R; since then, the program has opened their focus to catalog R33 and R34 parts. Now that they’re offering parts for all three generations, it’s going to be easier to keep them on the road, while supporting the GT-R community. Maybe it’s time for someone to use this chance to put a RB26 in a R35 GT-R to play with a new [2JZ-GTE swapped — Ed.] Supra — it’d make for some entertaining YouTube videos at least!
While not all parts are yet added, you can check out their catalog of parts here.
