VIDEO: Leno’s Garage 5.2 Liter Shelby GT500 Powered 1968 Ford Bronco Restomod

It is hard to point to a single part of Leno’s extraordinary Bronco and say, “This is what makes this build so special.” It’s more than the fact that it was a gift from a good friend, comedian Craig Ferguson, or the specially built chassis from Kincer, the only chassis manufacturer that has obtained Ford licensing, or the fact that Ford provided an engine that is only available in a new GT500 and has never been mated to a manual transmission. It is all of these finely tuned aspects working together that makes this Bronco truly one-of-a-kind.

Some five years after Leno walked out of the studio after wrapping up his last day on The Tonight Show to find the gift from Ferguson dumped in his parking spot, the comedian and host of Leno’s Garage teamed up with Dave Pericak at Ford Icons, Mike Spagnola at SEMA Garage, and Theresa Contreras with LGS-CTS Motorsports to put together this unique restomod. While the body work ultimately, by design, came out to be not far off from original looking, the rest is far from it.

LGS-CTS Motorsports created a custom front grill and bumpers while keeping the original heritage of the body lines. The 760-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500 powerplant fits snuggly in the engine bay and is backed by a specially built Tremec TR4050HD manual transmission. The four-wheel-drive and braking system was updated as well. The Bronco is finished with a bevy of one-off, 3D-printed parts, many of which feature the Bucking Bronco logo.

Keeping with the theme of the exterior, the interior was kept pretty stock looking with very subtle upgrades such as the tilt steering wheel, cup holders, console mounted radio, and of course new saddle-tan, light brown upholstery. The incredible 1968 Ford Bronco build was originally unveiled at the SEMA show where it was received with high praise for keeping with the iconic style while truly radicalizing its performance.
