Holley’s LS Fest brings out all kinds of cars, and enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re into COPO Camaro drag racing, pro-touring LS-swapped muscle cars or the machines on the drift course, there’s something for everyone at LS Fest.
In recent years, the Drift Challenge has taken on a whole life of its own, with more and more attendees with each passing year, and with growing interest from everyone at the event! But don’t think for one second it’s just a bunch of 16-year old kids messing around; nope, these guys are for real. They’ve even made a few converts out of former drag- and circle track racers!
Derek Carter is one such convert, having prior experience drag racing his 2000 Camaro, and dabbling in circle track racing for a time. Derek’s father also raced in these types of motorsport, and Derek goes on to tell us the racing is a family affair for him, with his wife and kids tagging along to every event!
Turning our attention to his current steed, and we find an LS-swapped Nissan 240SX. Purchased as a roller, Derek’s 240SX is a car of his own creation, sporting an aftermarket hood, rear spoiler and a JDM S14 Silvia front nose. The engine is a 6-liter iron block LS, with a Holley Performance 240SX LS swap kit, fuel system and other goodies. The heads have been ported and inside the truck LS block is an aftermarket camshaft.
Inside the cockpit, you’ll notice a roll cage, racing seats, harnesses and other safety equipment designed to keep Derek planted in the driver’s seat. Looking to keep things simple and on a budget, Derek claims he does his best not to stuff the car into the wall, while trying to prolong a set of tires or two for each season.
We have a feeling that we’ll be seeing more of Derek and his 240SX at the next LS Fest!
