VIDEO: Manus Walker’s 1980 Porsche 924 Carrera GT

Magnus Walker is one guy who certainly doesn’t fit in any one mold; tall, outspoken and with an appearance that looks straight-up rock n’ roll, you would never peg him for a British fashion designer. Perhaps you wouldn’t think he would be a car collector, either, though with a look that’s rather similar to Rob Zombie, you may think he would be a collector of muscle cars and hot rods. Nope. In fact, this Brit entrepreneur is well-spoken, intelligent and quite influential in his field of expertise.

He’s also a connoisseur of classic Porsches. In this recent episode from Petrolicious, called, The Unloved, they focus specifically on Magnus’ personal ’80 Porsche 924 Carrera GT. It’s a car he purchased form an Australian collector, who kept the car in Japan, and ultimately shipped the car to Southern California upon Magnus’ purchase. The personalized Ohio plates throw us off, but maybe that’s the point being a Cali car.

Packing many improvements over the standard 924, the Carrera GT cranked up the power, beefed up the suspension among other modifications. One of the clear standout tweaks to the GT over the normal 924, is the bodywork — featuring fender and quarter panels extension that provide a “wide body” appearance, and allows for the owner to run wide wheels.

Magnus took advantage of this, implementing his own Outlaw52 1552 wheels, measuring in at 16×8 in the front, and 16×9.5 out back, wrapped in Pirelli Tree-R rubber. Being a 1-of-406 example, that didn’t stop Mr. Walker from personalizing it further, adding a two-tone paint effect, a subtle silver pinstripe and a few added decals here and there, plus a few other subtle tweaks.

It’s certainly a stand-out to your author, who dreamed of owning one of these cars as a kid. It’s a perfect example of ’80s nostalgia that’s currently making a comeback right now.
