Matt Farah is a Ford guy, and while he gives a pretty fair assessment of other cars on his web show, One Take, he really seems the most at home when operating a blue oval car. During his latest review, he got to get behind the wheel of what many would consider to the be the ‘ultimate’ Ford for a rare experience that many car reviewers and media people don’t get, Matt got to take out a 2018 Ford GT.
This is such a rare opportunity because only 250 of the Ford supercars will be built each year, until the year 2020. The car Matt is taking over in the video is the only GT in Ford’s press fleet, according to Farah. Matt almost got to drive the car before, but Chris Harris got the car instead.
In this video, Matt gets the car to drive unsupervised for The Smoking Tire for seven hours, and the plan is to rip around the roads of the well-known Angeles Crest Highway. He puts the Ford supercar’s abilities to handle the non-stop turns on the Angeles Forest Highway and the tunnels provide absolute magic when it comes to capturing some killer exhaust notes.
Matt takes a spirited right onto Upper Big Tujuna Canyon for more fun behind the wheel, thanks to the area’s long straightaways combined with hard turns. With a 0-60 mile per hour capability of around 3 seconds, and top speed of 216 miles per hour, the 2018 Ford GT is up for the challenge. The adjustable suspension, carbon fiber construction, and active-aero features all come together to make this a car that really earns the American supercar title, and Matt seems to agree.
If you want to get behind the wheel of one, you’d better have some money, or know someone. This car is so rare that most people will only see it on The Grand Tour reruns or Matt’s time with it. Even if you have the money, you probably don’t have the connections, so it’s nice to see a real person enjoying one.
