IDIDIT Announces A Competition Column for Mazda Miatas

The Mazda Miata has long been at the forefront of the modern sports car segment, both on the track on on the back country roads of America. Small, lightweight and typically offering 50/50 weight distribution, it’s what you’re looking for in a serious track car or autocross contender.

The aftermarket has always been quite substantial for the Miata, but now that we’re seeing them being built to a level like never before, leave it up tour friends at IDIDIT to add one more additional option to the mix.

Official Release:

A Competition Column for Mazda Miatas
Racers enjoy weight savings & years of smooth operation with the Pro-Fab Lightweight Steering Columnfrom IDIDIT Performance.

TECUMSEH, MICHIGAN: IDIDIT Performance’s newest addition to its Pro-Fab line for 1990-2005 Miata (NA & NB) applications gives racers a new way to save weight.

Highly popular in road racing and autocross, the Miata has proven to be a light, yet tough, option for builders and racers. The new IDIDIT Pro-Fab Miata column shaves an additional 16-pounds off an already-light vehicle, which provides an advantage on the track and an opportunity to install other aftermarket products that builders may have been weary about due to weight worries.

Suitable for drag, autocross, road and off-road racing, the ultra-lightweight column weighs just 2.65 pounds. When paired with an IDIDIT Performance Quick-Release Steering Hub and aftermarket lightweight steering wheel, the 4.05-pound combination offers a 16-pound weight savings over the 20-pound factory column.

The Pro-Fab slides directly in place of the factory column and bolts to the OEM mounting points and steering shaft. It comes equipped with an extended shaft that allows the installer to trim the column to best fit the driver. Pairing with an IDIDIT Performance Quick-Release Steering Hub adds further adaption to the race car.

“The Pro-Fab Column for the 1990-2005 Mazda Miata is the lightest column we’ve ever made,” Trever Cornwell of IDIDIT said. “With laser-cut tubing and brackets, TiG welds and a brushed aluminum finish – it’s a true testament to the level of research, development and design we put in to new products. The Pro-Fab columns are purpose-built to provide drivers with a new, rigid, steering solution for race applications. And it since it bolts in using factory mounts and no other modifications are needed, installation is simpler than most think.”

Proudly made in the USA with precision laser-cut tubing and brackets, the column features sealed upper ball bearings and Delrin lower bushings for years of smooth operation, and comes with a brushed aluminum finish.

Included in the box are options to retain the factory keyed ignition switch, factory self-canceling turn signals and multifunction switch on the column, as well as to retain the column shroud to keep a stock appearance.
