VIDEO: Mustang EcoBoost HPP Gets More Performance, Electric ‘Mach E’, and Giveaway

t’s been a big few days in the world of the Ford Mustang, and in this video, Justin Dugan from AmericanMuscle gives us a five minute breakdown of everything going on with the Pony Car lately. From a EcoBoost on steroids to an electric option, and also a giveaway for the shoppers at AmericanMuscle, he’s got a lot to cover.

First up is arguably the biggest news, the upcoming Ford Mustang EcoBoost HPP trim level being added to the lineup. This is basically a Mustang with the powertrain of the dearly departed Focus RS. The 2.3L High Performance Package gets 300-horsepower and the help of a turbocharger – the powertrain is backed by a six-speed manual, or 10-speed automatic transmission.

The high-revving four-cylinder and turbo give the HPP EcoBoost a top mile per hour of 155 mph, or 10 mph more than the EcoBoost Performance Package, and 34 miles per hour faster than the base Mustang EcoBoost. A fully active quad-tip exhaust system and a tightly geared 3.55:1 limited-slip rear axle add to its sprinting power of 0 to 60 in the mid-four-second range.

It gets more braking power from larger four-piston fixed calipers with 13.9-inch front rotors, and has tweaked power steering, antilock braking and stability control. You’ll be able to tell it apart by the large black front splitter and belly pan, brake cooling ramps, blacked out grille, HPP side badges, gray side mirrors, and a rear blade spoiler.

In other Ford Mustang news, Ford trademarks “Mach E,” “Mach-E,” and “Mustang Mach-E”, and common sense would tell you that this is in preparation for an upcoming hybrid motor to be included in the Mustang. Justin eludes that an inside source has commented that the news about all this is coming very soon.

Finally, Justin wraps up this week’s Mustang news with the announcement of the AmericanMuscle gift card giveaway of $150, so you can modify your current Mustang, or wait to grab a new EcoBoost or electrified Stang to throw parts at it – check out the details here.
