VIDEO: Edelbrock Supercharger Pushes This Coyote To Nearly 1,000 HP

NMRA Street Outlaw drag racer Brian Devilbiss gained popularity as the driver of Devils Reject. The 2013 Grabber Blue Mustang was the first Shelby GT500 to hit the 6 second bracket and the first to run the 1/8th mile in 6 seconds on 275 tires. A feat made possible in part by the cars builders at Evolution Performance in Aston, PA. 

So naturally when Devilbiss wanted to modify his 2018 Mustang GT street car he turned to the same shop that built his race car. Starting with the 2018 Mustangs stock 5.0L long block and 10 speed transmission, Evolution equipped the car with a stage 1 followed by a stage 2 Supercharger kit from Edelbrock. Other modifications to the Mustang include a Fore Innovations Triple Pump Fuel System (E85), Stainless Works 2” Headers connected to a Borla Cat-Back exhaust, and a tune by Lund Racing. 

The 2650 TVS Supercharger is capable of supporting over 1000 HP and includes an Edelbrock 103mm Throttle Body, High Flow Intake System and 8-Rib Belt Drive. The unique design features a dual pass, three-core intercooler to control intake air temperatures and as a stage 1 kit is 50 state legal making it perfect for street or race applications. 

The stage 1 kit made 615 horsepower with 597 ft-lbs of torque on the Mustang but the stage 2 kit was worth 961 HP and 869 Lb-Ft of torque. Running on E-85 pump fuel with 16 PSIs of boost the IAT at 2,500 RPM was measured at 93 degrees and 104 degrees @ 7,500 RPM for a nominal 11 degree temperature rise. The first 1/4 mile pass made in the Mustang weighing in at 4,200 Lb with Devilbiss behind the wheel was a screaming 9.51 ET @ 148 MPH. 

Mild to wild kits are available from Edelbrock for Ford Coyote, Chevy LT1/LT4, and Mopar Gen III Hemi engines. “Your traditional centrifugal supercharger needs RPM to build boost, but with the Edelbrock R2650, there’s no waiting for that power to come on,” says Nick Purciello, Product Manager for Edelbrock’s supercharger systems. “You put your foot to the floor, the bypass valve closes, and an instant 10 PSI or more is available from very low RPM. That means faster acceleration from the moment you want to accelerate, to the moment you want to stop accelerating, if that ever exists.”
